Dear ,
The evolution of the COVID-19 disease in Portugal has led to a succession of measures being taken in response to problems arising from this pandemic.
In order to guarantee the rights of Portuguese and foreign citizens, Decree-Law 10-A/2020 of March 13th was published, under which it was determined that the public authorities should accept, for all legal purposes, the exhibition of documents that should be renewed and whose validity had expired after February 24th 2020, until October 30th 2020.
Since then, due to the constant need to adapt to the pandemic, to this present date, the aforementioned deadline for admissibility of expired documents has been extended on three occasions:
- Under Decree-Law No. 87-A/2020 of October 15th, an extension until March 31st 2021, was approved;
- In view of the panorama faced in the first months of the year, the Council of Ministers approved, through Decree-Law n.º 22-A/2021 of March 17th, a new extension, until December 31st 2021;
Therefore, documents and visas related to stay in national territory whose validity period expired after February 24th 2020 must be accepted as valid until March 31st 2022.
After that date, documents and visas related to stay in the national territory that expired after February 24th, 2020 will be accepted as long as their holder proves that has already scheduled their renewal.
